YMY Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct
These guidelines were composed with the assumption that the freedom given to you will allow for the most maturity and growth in your level of responsibility. These rules are not meant to punish you or restrict you, but to make you have a spiritually meaningful year while also being able to have fun.
Curfew:    The most important responsibility we have is to your parents. We must be able to keep you safe and to be able to tell them where you are at all times. Having said that, we understand your desire to go out and spend time with your friends.
While there is no requirement for sign in,  students are expected to be back in the dormitory at 12:15 am. Consistent violation by a student will result in strict enforcement of an earlier curfew.
Failure to comply with a strictly enforced curfew will be subject to severe consequences.
If, due to extenuating circumstances, you will return to the dormitory after 12:15 am, you must notify the madrichim by phone and text; the madrich  will confirm this text.
Minyan:    Tefilah is an essential part of any student’s religious growth. A  student’s ability to consistently attend Minyan in a timely manner will demonstrate their maturity and self respect. Being on time for minyan is not only important for your relationship with God, but to your fellow students who may be waiting for you to start on time.
Minyan is a part of the Yeshivah program and will begin promptly at 7:45 am.
Friday minyan is mandatory.
Failure to participate in minyan 2 days in a row, or 3 days in one week, will result in a penalty of an 11pm curfew for the next two nights.
Consistent failure to participate in Minyan will have consequences similar to those for a student who misses shiurim.
Shiurim:    The rabbis you will be learning with this year are the most dedicated we could find. They will be giving everything they have to make this year productive and meaningful for you. It is your responsibility to join them in this, by arriving in classes on time and participating.
If you are going to be late to class, or are ill and cannot attend, text or call the rabbi to inform him.
Attendance will be taken electronically by every teacher.  If there is a pattern of poor attendance or excessive lateness, you will be issued a formal warning.  If your attendance does not improve, you will be placed on probationary status.
If the behavior continues, the administration will contact your parents and your continued participation in Yeshivah may be endangered. In addition, the administration may determine that a college transcript will not be issued, and you will lose credits. Please note that a portion of each grade on the transcript is determined by your attendance and participation.
Going Out:     We understand your natural desire to go out and have fun,  and there is time in your schedule to accomplish this goal. At the same time, we depend on you to act as mature, God-fearing young men.
No matter where you are, you must conduct yourself as a representative of the community and of Moreshet Yerushalayim.
As will be explained in detail at orientation in Israel, there are locations which are not appropriate for Yeshivah students.  Any infraction of this rule will be treated as an extremely serious offense, and may have drastic consequences. If you are unsure about the suitability of a place or activity, please check with your madrichim.
You may not leave Jerusalem on a weeknight without prior permission from Rabbi Shani or Rabbi Tessler.

Drug/Alcohol/Smoking:
There is a zero tolerance policy for drug use or alcohol abuse.
The Yeshivah reserves the right to drug test students at any time.  Students who fail these tests will be immediately expelled.
Consumption of alcohol or smoking of any kind in the dormitory is forbidden. Violators will be expelled.
Shabbatot:    Shabbat in the Yeshivah is an important part of our program. At orientation, you will be given the dates of “In Shabbat” weekends.
Students must be in attendance for “In Shabbatots” as well as any Yeshivah Shabbatonim.
While you may leave Yeshivah for Shabbat on other weekends, you must notify Rabbi Shani or Rabbi Tessler where you will be staying.  You must also provide a contact number for your hosts to the madrichim.
Family Visits:    We are well aware that you may miss your family, and they will miss you and want to visit.
If your family is visiting Israel, we encourage your fathers to visit the  Yeshivah and join in the morning’s shiurim. You may not miss morning seder for a family visit without prior approval by Rabbi Shani or Rabbi Tessler.
You may join your family in the afternoon, but must be back for night seder.  Any exceptions must be approved in advance by Rabbi Tessler or Rabbi Shani.
Leaving Yeshivah:    Experience has shown that it is best for students to plan to remain in Israel for the length of the school year (excluding Pesah). In general, students may not leave Israel during the school year.
If there are any emergencies or special circumstances, you must obtain personal approval from Rabbi Sutton prior to booking your flight.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in expulsion.
Visitors:
With the exception of your immediate family members, girls may not enter the dormitory. Violators will face severe consequences.
If you’d like to have someone sleep over at the Yeshivah, you must obtain prior approval from Rabbi Shani or Rabbi Tessler.
Dress Code:     Dressing appropriately is an important element in being a Yeshivah student. Dressing respectfully is an important element of respect for the Bet Midrash and the place you pray, and also builds an awareness that you are standing in the presence of God.
Students may not wear shorts, pajamas, tank tops, or any clothing with inappropriate writing or images to Minyan, shiurim, internships.
Students may never be in the Bet Midrash if they are inappropriately dressed.
