Saul E. Ashkenazi A"H
A highly philanthropic man, Mr. Saul E. Ashkenazi A"H was involved in numerous charities. He was a key donor to launch Yeshiva University’s scholarship fund in the early 1960s, was a Co-Founder of the Jewish Communal Fund in the early 1970s, and introduced Israeli Bonds into the local NY/NJ Jewish Communities in the mid 1970s. Mr. Ashkenazi also had a passion for architecture, and was the architect for the Ohel Yaacob Synagogue of Deal NJ in the 1980s, and the Shaare Zion Synagogue building expansion of Brooklyn, NY in the early 1990s. Perhaps his proudest philanthropic contribution was the purchase and donation of 56 acres of land with his brother Ely in NJ in the late 1970s where the Hillel Yeshiva preschool, elementary, and high schools now stand and flourish with over 800 students. In subsequent years, Mr. Ashkenazi raised tens of millions of dollars for new buildings and scholarship funds.
